There was a ringing noise. Our humans spoke into the air a while ago on what was shaping up to be a lazy morning for all of us. Then everything changed.
Our cat senses found sadness and confusion. The humans scrambled. And then Pat the Sitter came over and stayed with us for a week. The grass grew. It rained. It nearly froze. It rained some more.
When the sun came back, Our Humans did too. They've been back for several days. But something is still not quite right.
So, we have been doing our Cat Routine (and Elfstone brought in some more surprises just for them), and we've been keeping a watchful eye on the squirrels and the birds. And wondering why we can't chase them without a human running full tilt out there and scolding us. It's not like we actually CATCH them. ...

Color Contrasting Fur!
Hi from Elfstone Chestnut Pussycat!
I'm busy rolling all over the nice maroon-colored quilt cover My Human put on the bed a few days ago. It is now a nicer blend of maroon and cream and I'm prepping my coat for spring!!!
Happy rolls and purrs,
Yours Truly.
Oops, gotta run...she just noticed...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch
..Greetings from Acorn Oakmist,
Our humans did a lot of scurrying last week. Both of them were hauling Elfstone away in that damnable cage and then bringing him back. I was studiously pretending to ignore it all, but it was a little hard to ignore certain messes Elfstone was making in the process. I just decided to do the decent thing and Pretend Nothing Happened; and when my cat radar picked up the image of the Dreaded Vet I laid low.
Elfstone is better now and back to being my annoying Little Brother. And the humans are playing Cat Tackle about the pills again. Hmpfh. My Human was complaining about her arm hurting. Well, after all, Elfstone IS rather a fat cat. But they're the ones who kept bundling him There and Back. So, I am re-domesticating My Human by parking next to her on the couch at every opportunity, making sure she knows I'm Right There and Need Fuss.

Cat gangs???
The humans are talking about things we could have told them if they'd asked. Like,
all the strange new cats in our turf that seem to want to cause trouble.
Our humans are shutting the cat door at night now. Yesterday, I decided to park my orange fur on the chair and stay there. Now, they think it's because someone beat me up. Naw. I will never admit to something as disgraceful as that, and twelve is NOT old!!! I just felt like, um, relaxing yesterday.
Birthday? Me?!!! Harumph! Bah, humbug!
Yours sincerely,
Acorn Oakmist.

Pills!
Greetings from Acorn Oakmist,
I've been bemusedly watching the great struggle during the last week, between The Other One and Elfstone Chestnut Pussycat where a giant dust cloud emerges from whatever room they happen to be in -- or in this morning's case, rooms -- and from the cloud, the Other One's Voice: "Ya GOTTA. Ya GOTTA. I don't want to have to take you back to the vet!"
When the dust does settle, there is a catnip-induced peace for a while.
I think there's only one pill left.
Now if it were me, both humans would have given up way before this. ElastoKitty Rules...

Greetings from Acorn Oakmist,
I distracted the writer human from her lazy seat on the futon about six times in ten minutes by zipping out the cat door and demanding to be let in the front door moments later.
We finally arrived at a truce whereby I sat next to her and made sleepy cat noises and made her sit and write for a while.
Guess it worked. She sent something off to a friend, who liked it.
