Greetings from Acorn Oakmist,
My Human has given in to the sleep vibes I've been steadily aiming at her from the couch. So I woke up and noticed that The Other One is tapping away at that clacky thing on her lap. Hmph. I must be slipping. I shall get up, turn creakily around on the cushion to remind her that I am a Senior Cat and Must Be Obeyed, and settle back down with ears up, looking away from her. She knows then that I mean business even though I'm not looking at her.
Earlier on I had to remind My Human that I am most definitely not a pillow even though I was blending into them effortlessly. The joys of being orange on a red and gold background.
Ah, well, back to hibernation. ZZZZ.

stillness in the air
Hello from Elfstone Chestnut Pussycat,
The nice man with the pain-in-the butt fur creature who lives next door had a lot of people come over for the past few days. Ordinarily he's by himself and some people stop by from time to time. The fur creature isn't as big as we are, and he makes lots of noise every time he sees us and wiggles to get up and down the porch step, unlike us cats, who can leap tall fences any time we want... anyway, though, the man is always very nice even though he seems to think I'm a girl...the very idea.
But things have been very odd in neighbor land, with extra visitors staying for a very long time, and yesterday we heard a big clanging and clattering. People opened the big door we had never seen open and started taking things out. Big things, noisy things. Things that smell like the smells under the big monsters that move in the street. Little things hanging on shelves. That door does not open very much. And when I peeked in the other door there was a woman all the way inside the house. She was crying and not moving around very much.
Something was really wrong, I thought, and I didn't see the nice man. Now that I think about it, I didn't see the Fur Guy either. Not that I missed him all that much.
And then they all went away and everything was quiet. I hate it when everything gets quiet. It's as though someone tore a hole in the neighborhood.
Now it's very dark in there and everything is shut. And my humans are upset. Even Acorn didn't have his usual Red Tough Guy cattitude. And I'm worried that they will go away too so I'm fussing over them and talking to them and making sure that they know I'm just a pussycat that needs his humans to stick around and do the things that humans are supposed to do. (Where'd the food go, anyway? It's been minutes since I ate last...maybe I should park on one of them till they realize they need me.)

But what planet is it from?
Hello from Acorn Oakmist ...
A few days ago our humans went crazy and hauled things around, created a huge uproar and when it was over, there was a great big outdoorsy smelling cat toy in the house with all sorts of lights and shiny things on it.
I found it was quite pleasant to play with a few things swinging well within reach so I parked next to it and thoughtfully swatted at a couple of things.
The Other One just watched carefully and relaxed after nothing broke.
Elfstone decided to curl up in the chair next to this odd creature and pretend to fall asleep. He said later that he really wasn't asleep, just pretending, so he could get a better idea of what this thing was all about.
It's still here and the humans are still crazy.

Parked!
Hello from Acorn Oakmist,
I got to do something I hadn't done in ages a few nights ago.
Parked firmly on unsuspecting human asleep on the couch as she huddled under a blanket.
(She's mine, I tell you. Mine. Knit. Purr.)
I know she loved every minute of it.

What is all this uproar around the house?
Hello and a big HMPH from Acorn Oakmist,
My Human has been pulling all our nice hidey places next to the house apart and moving all the Stuff around. Climbing on the roof! Spraying water at the house! Tearing away all that nice cushy grass and attacking the bushes!
You'd think they were about to do something like paint the house!!!
Well, I have news for them. My secret weapon will be deployed in no time if they do something weird like that. (don't remind them. I have cat hair, nice color contrasting orange cat hair, and I'm not afraid to use it. Shh...it's a secret.)

It's getting noisy around here!
I will never understand humans!
They had this insane thing about feeding everything that came into the yard, lately. Birds, squirrels, even our neighbor cat (Rohan, I think his name is.)
Now they're fussing and putting things out and taking them back and tsk-ing because Undesirables From The Wrong Side of the Tracks have just horned in to our peaceful back yard, and they've upset Rohan's turf too, and his humans are partly to blame. They put feeders in the yard and some oddball cage thing with white stuff in it hanging from one of the trees. Along comes THEM...noisy, raucous, screeching gangsta types in black and brown, and the poor respectable brightly colored songbirds and hummingbirds are, pardon the expression, all of a twitter.
OK, human, why are you jumping up and down and saying "NOT TWITTER?" A cat can't write a blog entry in peace either?
..and now nobody knows what to do.
There goes the neighborhood.
Regards...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch
There was a ringing noise. Our humans spoke into the air a while ago on what was shaping up to be a lazy morning for all of us. Then everything changed.
Our cat senses found sadness and confusion. The humans scrambled. And then Pat the Sitter came over and stayed with us for a week. The grass grew. It rained. It nearly froze. It rained some more.
When the sun came back, Our Humans did too. They've been back for several days. But something is still not quite right.
So, we have been doing our Cat Routine (and Elfstone brought in some more surprises just for them), and we've been keeping a watchful eye on the squirrels and the birds. And wondering why we can't chase them without a human running full tilt out there and scolding us. It's not like we actually CATCH them. ...
